Brandon Giroux is a court-qualified expert in the field of forensic firearm and tool mark identification. Mr. Giroux began his forensic science career in 2004 at the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, VA. During his tenure at the FBI Laboratory, he was trained and qualified as a firearm and tool mark examiner, participated in forensic casework, actively involved in forensic research, instructed advanced training to federal, state, local and international forensic experts, active member of various committees and boards, and defended the science of firearm and tool mark identification in a Daubert admissibility hearing.
In the Fall of 2009, Mr. Giroux began employment as a Laboratory Manager at the Michigan State Police Northville Laboratory. While at the Michigan State Police, Mr. Giroux trained to competency three forensic firearm and tool mark examiners, and was involved in the planning, implementation and oversight of the reduction of an overwhelming case backlog that resulted from the closure of the Detroit Laboratory.
Mr. Giroux is actively involved with establishing guidelines and admissibility educational materials through his work on the Scientific Working Group for Firearms and Toolmarks (SWGGUN), developing proposals to establish policy through his work on the Standards, Practices and Protocols Interagency Working Group (SPPIWG), and encouraging and promoting excellence through his committee work and position on the Board of Directors of the Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners (AFTE).
